Two Christmases ago, our family grew by four paws when we welcomed our very first real family pet, Wu-Tang. She’s a Cavapoo with fur the color of perfectly fried chicken, and from the moment she arrived, she became the star of our household. I mean, look at this drip.
Wu-Tang got her iconic name thanks to Eleanor, our creative genius, who took inspiration from our weekly dance tradition: Wu-Tang Wednesdays. Yes, our household celebrates the hip-hop legends with living-room dance-offs to their greatest hits. When Eleanor suggested the name Wu-Tang, how could we resist? After all, Wu-Tang is for the children.
Before Wu-Tang, we had our share of low-commitment “pets”—the dearly departed fish, Sharky and Flame-y, may they rest in where ever toilet bowl water ends up. Wu-Tang, however, is the real deal. She’s the furry glue of our family. She is also the official mascot for all outdoor sports and activities (baseball, scouts, etc)
Wu-Tang’s Greatest Hits
Like any true diva, Wu-Tang has her quirks:
- A Taste for Table Food: She has a finely tuned radar for unattended leftovers, from two-day-old Italian takeout to the occasional rotisserie chicken left conveniently in the car (while I ran inside to collect Princess E from Cheer, two minutes tops!). No meal is safe.
- Tesla Adventures: Wu-Tang is Dad’s co-pilot on Tesla rides, reveling in the luxury of Dog Mode and the envy of other pooches. The Dog Mode functionality is a game changer!
- Walkies Enthusiast: Her favorite activity? Walkies! But she’s picky about her walking buddies—Mom or Dad only, please. Kids don’t make the cut for leash duty. If Ike or Eleanor comes to the door, she’ll abandon her walk campaign and retreat to the couch like the tiny brat she is.
Life with Wu-Tang
Her go-to move is sitting patiently by the door when she’s ready to go outside. However, if she senses a child approaching first, her strategy shifts: couch it is, until a “responsible adult” gets the hint. When does she adore her human siblings? When there is food.
Despite her antics and her frequent misidentification as “Bad Dog” (probably what she thinks her middle name is), Wu-Tang is adored beyond measure. She brings joy, laughter, and the occasional stolen dinner into our lives.
Wu-Tang forever.
